Chapter 18

“Is this blue fish?” Car asked. “I love blue fish.” On the plate was rice pilaf and glazed carrots mixed with pieces of cauliflower. There was also a green salad and a small loaf of hot bread. There was also a ramekin of almond butter.

“Yup. Blue fish. Had it flown in from Boston just for you.”

“What other surprises do you have?” Car asked as we dug in.

“I keep tellin’ ya, it wouldn’t be a surprise if you knew, would it?”

Oscar was opening a bottle of Chablis for us. He poured two glasses.

I took a bite of the fish that was in syrupy sauce; I was surprised that it wasn’t sweet.

“Is there ginger in this?” I asked.

“Good taste buds, Chris. I think we’re going to get along real fine. You wouldn’t be a chocolate fan, would you?”

“That’s my downfall,” I admitted.

“Good to know.” He snickered as he walked back to the galley.
