“Yes, you do.” 23
When I got to my apartment, I set my cello on the floor of the hallway and tossed the photos onto the couch. The light on my answering machine was blinking wildly. I knew that meant I had more than one message. The light blinked faster with each message. I pressed a button and it told me I had seven messages.
Did I know seven people? Who would call me?

I took a very long shower. The other residents of the building could just wait.
I doubted any one had had a day like I had had. When the water was just beginning to cool, I turned it off and reached for a towel. I wrapped it around me and went into the bedroom to find some clean sweats.
In the kitchen, I opened a can of soup and put it in the microwave. While it was heating I dropped a couple slices of bread into the toaster.
