Chapter 8

“Did you want me to call your parents now?” Eddie asks.

Josh shakes his head. “Later.”

Eddie holds up his iPhone to Josh.

Josh mumbles, “Hmm?”

Eddie jokes, “Maybe I should snap a pic of your adorable face and post it to my Facebook page.”

“Ha ha.”

“You’d get a lot of likes.”

A thin, tight-lipped smile stretches across Josh’s face.

“I need caffeine,” Eddie says. “Can I get you anything from the cafeteria?”

Headshake.

“I’ll let you get some sleep.” He stands. “I’ll be back in a few minutes.”

But before Eddie turns to leave, he feels Josh’s cold hand on his arm. Eddie spins around at Josh. Josh mouths, “Thanks.”

“No prob, man.” He engulfs Josh’s hand in his. He leans down and hugs him. Eddie’s body heat lingers between them like old friends. “Thank you,” Josh whispers into Eddie ear.

“I wish I could do more.”

Josh raises his head off the pillow, nestles his face into Eddie’s chest. “My pants. Spare key.” With a trembling finger he points to the sterile metal bedside table.
