“Tell you what,” Vincent said. “You finish your chores, and I’ll tell you how to follow somebody without them catching you.”

The boy’s face brightened. “I’ll be right back,” he called as he dashed into the house.

Margaret smiled. “You’re never going to get rid of him now. He’s going to follow somebody all right: you, everywhere.”

“He’s a good kid,” Vincent said, though his expression was a bit dubious. “I don’t mind playing around with him a bit.”

Nikoloz wiped sweat from the back of his neck and headed inside. “We need to begin packing if you are to leave in two days.”

Margaret heaved another melodramatic sigh, but rose from the swing and followed him. “I have no idea what I should pack,” she said. “Maybe you could come and help me decide.”
