Chapter 37

“I am going to do the rounds,” he said, shoving out of his chair.

Margaret slid off the sofa. “Don’t you ever take a break?” Her lower lip was protruding once more. She laid a hand on his arm. He could feel the heat of her skin even through his shirt.

“You feel quite warm,” he said, gently removing the hand. “I think you might have a fever.”

“I’m burning for you,” she murmured, stepping closer.

Nikoloz backed away. “Actually, I feel warm as well. I will check the thermostat.”

“It’s fine. Come and sit on the sofa with me for a little while. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”

“I still do not know who this Jack is.” He backed away another step, but ran into the desk. Margaret crowded close. Her eyes were huge. Nikoloz could see each of the thick lashes she’d painted with mascara. Her eyelids were bright blue, almost iridescent. He caught himself staring, and jerked upright, shaking his head.

Margaret smiled and put a hand on his chest. “Feel like partying yet, Nicky?”
