Chapter 41

“Not if we want to avoid meeting Ralph and Cooter again.”

“Why don’t we call them? The police could help us.”

Vincent jerked a thumb at his partner. “And explain that? ‘Excuse me, Officer, but we need to find a kidnapped girl who I put an illegal homing beacon on—and could you look after my Russian partner while he’s on his acid trip?’ That would go over very well, I can tell you.”

He kept driving, turning to stay as close to the direction on the tracker as possible. When they reached the outskirts of Carroll’s Parrish, Billy excitedly reported that he could see streets on the screen.

“That means we’re close,” Vincent told him. “We seem to be bypassing the downtown area.”

Billy looked out the window. “We’re headed for the place with all the warehouses and stuff. We took a field trip to an old factory building out here last year.”

“Old buildings,” mused Vincent. “Perfect for hiding a kidnap victim.”
