Chapter 10

“You’re seatbelt’s not fastened,” said the woman in seat C.

He looked down and found one part of the belt, but not the other. He started to stand but the plane suddenly moved and he fell back into his seat.

“I think you’re sitting on the other part of my seatbelt,” he told her.

“Well, I can’t do anything about it now, can I? The plane’s in motion.”

“All right. Maybe they won’t notice.”

Without looking up from her book the woman in black told him they’d notice. “You can’t fly through turbulence unbelted. Why, I’ve seen—”

“I thought you said it lasts only a few moments.” He felt a rush of heat to his face followed by a chilly sensation running rampant through his body.

“Yes,” she said. “I assumed you’d be belted in. Why you might fly up and bang your head. Or worse, fall out of your seat—”

“Thank you,” he said. “I get it.” Then to the woman in seat C, “Can’t you push yourself up just a little? Enough for me to reach under you.”
