Chapter 10

“Great. Maybe we could have coffee at a bookstore I discovered recently? It has a little bit of everything, and I think you might find it interesting. Take a walk on the wild side, as it were.”

The look he gave me was slightly fearful. “I don’t know if I could fit into a place like that.”

I grinned at him. “You won’t know until you try.”

The months leading up to my assistant’s wedding were busy with new hires, wedding rehearsals—I was her Man of Honor—and lovely nights and weekends with Bruce. He had agreed to be my date for the event.

On Thanksgiving Day, it snowed lightly but not enough to call off the ceremony. Rhonda stood at the altar, resplendent in a white suit and a huge smile as we both watched her bride walking down the aisle on her father’s arm.

The church was full of employees and relatives, and the occasion was festive. Bruce sat near the front and winked at me when I glanced over at him briefly. I winked back then focused on my duties.
