Chapter 3

Out on the sidewalk, Dale stopped and leaned against the wall of the building, arms folded, head down, annoyed and uneasy.

“Thank you,” Riadh said softly.

“For what? Not selling you to a total douchebag who called you an ‘it’? Give me credit for having some morals.”

“He is correct in that I am considered a commodity.”

“You are not a commodity. Okay, maybe you’re not human, but you’re not a thing. I promised you before that I wouldn’t sell you, trade you, give you away or otherwise change your…situation without your express consent.” Dale reached out and cupped a hand along the side of Riadh’s neck. “Besides, I care about you.”

Riadh smiled slightly.

Dale pulled Riadh toward him and wound both arms around Riadh’s body. “God…what a waste of a four hour drive. Let’s go back to the car and get out of the city. Forget the hotel idea.”
