Chapter 44

As the song faded and the crowd swelled to ear-splitting volume, he glared around at no one in particular and muttered, “Where the hell is she?”

Neither of the security guards answered.

Crystal looked at the stairs down which they’d come earlier. “Maybe we should go back up a level, then go around and try and find her. There shouldn’t be anyone in our way as long as he’s going to play another song—”

Right on cue, the heavy guitar riff of a new song blared from beyond the doors, one Larry didn’t recognize. He almost wailed in frustration. “He’s playing new material?” he cried. “And we’re missing it! Shit!”

“We can go back up,” Crystal tried again, already pulling him towards the stairs. “Come on, Dad. We’ll be there in no time.”

He barely managed two steps in that direction before a side door he hadn’t noticed before banged open and out strode a woman he recognized from photos he’d seen online. The infamous Marnie Hall.
