Chapter 3

“I hope you like it here,” Cole said. “Took me and the guys a month to fix this place up, and I gotta say I’m damn proud of how it turned out.”

“You should be,” Daniel said. “It’s gorgeous.”

“Gonna feature it in any of your photos?”

“Jake told you, huh? Maybe. Get a fire going in the stove, snap a picture of the smoke rising from the chimney with the sun setting in the background. Yeah, I think I could.”

Cole nodded in approval. “Speaking of which, Marcie told me I should show you around the ranch, like any places I think you would want to photograph.”

Marcie was Jake’s daughter, and she and her husband were both business school graduates who helped Jake with the administrative side of running a ranch. Daniel had initially spoken to her about renting the cabin, and his impression of her was all positive. If she wanted Daniel to spend more time with Cole, that was fine by him.

“Great! Let me know when you would want to do it. Give me a few days to settle in before—”
