Chapter 7

“Fine with me. Thanks.” I sat before him and took a bite. “Wonderful, as always.”

“You’re welcome.”

“Did you get any sleep last night?” I asked.

“The club closed at four, and I spent two hours cleaning up. I’ll nap later in the day.”

I glanced at him and saw the crow’s feet and the dark circles under his eyes, but even that couldn’t dim his beauty. “You don’t have to do this, you know. I feel bad that you went to all this trouble when you could be in bed sleeping.”

He yawned and gave me a tired smile. “Believe you me, handsome, it’s no trouble at all.”

“Stubborn, that’s what you are.”

“It’s for a good cause.”

I shook my head at him and finished my meal. I stepped into the back of the store briefly to make us some coffee, and we sipped it while I thought of the coming day.

“How are sales this week?” he asked.
