When she arrived, she spoke in a quiet tone. “The only thing you have for the rest of the week is Friday morning’s staff meeting. You need the rest of the day off?”
Eron smiled. He appreciated the fact that she had learned to anticipate his needs and built the time into his schedule. This type of desertion from the office had nearly cost him his job when he first started at the ACLU.
“Yes, I need to go to the library to study.”
She winked at him. “I’ll let anyone know who asks.”
Eron left the office and drove out of the city, back to Long Island. It wasn’t the trial from which he needed the break, it was himself.
