The waitress brought their plates. “Need anything else?” she asked.
“I’m good,” Garrett said.
“Me, too,” Eron said.
“Let me know if something comes up,” she said as she ran off.
Garrett took a bite of his burger. The food comforted him. As they both ate, even the color came back into Eron’s face. This afternoon had to be as hard on Eron as it was on Garrett.
Eron gulped down a big bite. “I wanted to apologize for my behavior at the wedding.”
Garrett looked over his plate at the crowd. “It’s no big deal. We both said things we regret.”
“But I feel like I started it, and then I finished it. That’s unfair to you.”
Garrett took a deep breath. “I was confused to begin with. You didn’t help.”
“I don’t know what happened. One minute I was in control and the next minute I wasn’t.”
“I trusted you.”
“I know you did. Listen, for whatever reason, I felt like a teenager again. I’m sorry.”
