Chapter 40

Dennis whistled. “Good shot, babe.”

“This is one of the shorter, easier holes.” Bob turned red and put away his club.

“That was still one hell of a swing. How’d you learn to do that?” Eron asked.

“My dad was a golf pro.” Bob and Dennis turned away and celebrated with a quick smooch.

“I can’t do this anymore,” Garrett said in a quiet tone.

Eron put his hand on Garrett’s shoulder. “You’re doing fine. I guess we should do more golfing together.” Eron’s strong grip and wink did little to comfort Garrett.

“Come on, let me show you how he did that.” Eron lit a cigarette and headed toward the tee box.

Garrett fidgeted with the pocket of his rented golf bag. “Let me go last and then I’ll just catch up to you guys.”

“We have to keep our order, you’re fine. Besides, it’s not safe.”

“We’re in no hurry and none of us are pros,” Dennis said.

“Bring your five iron,” Eron instructed.

Garrett found the club and joined Eron at the tee box.
