Chapter 9

“Please,” the young lord whispered. “Say you will come back.”

Evan snaked his arm around John’s waist and pulled the man close. He slid his other hand through John’s hair, letting the silky raven strands slip between his fingers. “Aye,” he said with a smile. “I will promise you that.”

John pulled Evan down into another kiss before stepping away. “I suppose we both must return.”

Evan watched John walk around the corner and felt a bit of his heart go as well. He shook his head before heading back to the tavern himself. The moment he stepped inside, he saw the wary look on William’s face. William shifted in his chair when Evan sat down.

“What did you do?”

“I believe I lost my heart,” Evan said.

William nearly choked on a swallow of ale. “You what?”

“I think I’m in love,” Evan said quietly.
