As he made his way back he could hear voices in his car. Asa was talking with someone, an angry someone who had nearly completely closed the compartment door. Levi sidled up, hand on his pistol, and leaned easy on the wall directly beside the door. To even get a shot in, should Asa need assistance, he’d have to open it, and for the moment he deemed it best to figure out what was going on.
“—didn’t take a genius to figure out where you stashed it,” said a man. He was standing close to the door, and to Levi’s dismay, he heard a child answer, probably the boy he’d seen earlier on the platform.
“I was carrying jewels, not papers.”
The man laughed at the boy’s indignation.
“Sure, kid. Your uncle tell you he was using you?”
