Chapter 23

The ballsy hustler cleared his throat, tipped his hat to Pax, and said, “I came to get you back. You’ve been gone a little too long.”

“There’s nothing to get,” Pax responded, still atop Triton. “My life is different now.”

“I know about your accident, your amnesia, and whatnots. It’s time you clear your head and get with me again. I want to take you to Tulsa for a few weeks and care for you.”

Pax shook his head. “I’m not into you, Tracy. Things have changed since then.”

“What kind of things?” The interloper took a step forward, spreading his legs aggressively wider. His hands were still planted on his hips, and he was clearly looking for a fight. The look he gave us said he wasn’t going to go back to Tulsa empty-handed. He’d come for Pax and nothing was going to stop him.
