“You have to grow a pair and do it, my love. No regrets. Just do it. Sometimes we have to wade into frightening waters. It’s how we survive as humans.”

“And what if I find out that he’s still in love with Toby?”

“I’m sure he’s not. And I’m quite sure you have nothing to worry about.”

“But what if, Lee?”

He moved closer and brushed his nose against mine, put his hands on my hips to center me, and said, “Don’t live with ‘what if’s,’ Dixon. Get to the bottom of things. Clear this situation up. Be honest with him and be honest with yourself.”

He turned away and took my hand, bringing me to an aisle of potted tiger lily. We’d have these at our wedding—if the wedding was still on after I confronted Gray about Toby.

“I’m babying these just for you, Sweetness,” Lee said, lightly touching one of the yellow-orange petals. “A whole lot of love is going into this project for your wonderful day, just so you know.”

“You’re magical,” I said. “I can’t thank you enough.”
