Chapter 8

“What’s your favorite place you’ve lived?”

“Are you kidding me? Seattle, in just about every way.”

“Really?”

“Oh yeah. I mean, I love traveling, obviously. I love this job, and if World Wind goes under, I’ll probably look for another airline job. We lived in all kinds of cool places, and I have great memories of Cape Town, but America, man…it’s my kinda place. It’s ‘home’ to me now.”

“Wow. Cool.”

“What about you?”

“Well, I guess Seattle, too, now that you mention it. I love it there, although it’s not like I’ve really lived anyplace else. I was in San Francisco for a minute, a long time ago.”

“Are you from Seattle?”

I shook my head. “I’m from a town about the size of this patio in Iowa. I do nothave great memories of it and in fact hope never to see it again.”

“Ah. So you don’t care where you live,” he tried, chuckling.
