Chapter 2

My stomach fluttered as our knees touched beneath the table. She batted her eyelashes from beneath her fringe so I laid my hand on her arm, told her I thought she was fascinating and what a good time I was having.

In turn she said she’d never been with someone so easy going, especially a lawyer. Her voice was soft as she spoke those words and I knew something magical would happen tonight.

“Would you like to come back to my place?” I said hopefully.

“More than anything,” she replied immediately.

So now the pressure was on for me. What would I do once we arrived at my place? Play it cool or make a move? I was anxious at the prospect of being with her, she was everything I wanted in a partner and I hoped we’d be just as compatible as lovers.

As we waited on the sidewalk for a cab I realized I was tongue tied, something lawyers absolutely detest, after all the gift of the gab is what usually keeps us going. For once it was me who was in awe of her, not the other way around.
