Chapter 32

“For crying out loud,” Tim said and threw down another card.

“I’m thinking of doing an interview and setting the record straight. Because James is still on the run, they somehow think I’m still working with him or helping him by feeding him information on the investigation.” Carla sounded pissed and disgusted all at the same time. “They’ve set up camp outside our home,” she said.

“At ours, too,” Tom said without looking up from his iPad, furiously hitting the screen with his thumbs.

“Did you hear about the list of victims being published on the web? Talk about responsible journalism,” she said.

“It’s unbelievable. All our friends’ anonymity and lives had been exposed.”

“Two had committed suicide,” Tom said again, “others were hospitalized for depression since the whole story broke.”

Tim stared at his boyfriend’s bowed head, his face obscured by his hair. He looked back at Carla and sighed.

“I feel responsible,” she said.
