Kyer shrugged as he settled his haversack over one shoulder. “I sort of asked my parents if she’d come over or messaged them.”
I whipped around to stare at him, incredulous. “You askedthem? Kyer—”
“I just asked if they’d heard from her,” he explained. “Calm down.”
With a grim laugh, I said, “Easy for you to say. You don’t have Officers knocking down your door.”
“I probably will soon, though,” Kyer admitted, “once Brin tells them about me.”
I gripped my head with both hands and squeezed. A small spot of pain had begun to blossom behind my right eye. From not taking the pills? Or from tonight’s drama? I didn’t know, and didn’t really care. I just wanted it to go away. “Damn.”
