??You??re leaving??? he asked, jumping up from the sofa.

??Yes.??

??So this is it? This is how we leave things between us???

I didn??t know how to respond, so I didn??t. I felt sick. My stomach was upset and my head hurt. I suspected my symptoms were psychosomatic since I was perfectly fine before I??d come to Jay??s house. I figured my ailments would disappear once I got into my rental car and cruised away from Sacramento.

I looked at Jay standing before me, with his arms folded defensively across his chest. I could tell he was angry but, hell, I was angry, too. He??d screwed me over, yet I was the one being criticized. I should have known he would turn the tables and try to blame everyone else for his own awful behavior. But even now, after everything, I still loved him and I still wanted him.

He blocked my way as I headed for the door.

??Don??t leave like this,?? he said.

We stared at each other for a moment before I sighed and pulled him into my arms.
