Chapter 3

I parked the bus, punched out, and waved to the other drivers as I left. I needed supplies so I stopped off at the Rite Aid nearest my apartment to stock up. Too late, I remembered that this was the branch where Nelson worked. Hopefully, he wasn’t the supervisor on duty this evening.

I got a small basket, filled it with condoms and lube, and headed to the register. The cashier was a cute twenty-something with a button nose and kissable freckles. He blushed as I flirted with him, and I had almost coaxed out his phone number when a throat cleared next to me.

I looked over, and my smile faded when I encountered Nelson’s not-so-poker face. His visible disappointment made me…uncomfortable. That was a first.

“You’re holding up the line, Milo.”

He glared at the poor cashier, now bright red as he handed over my receipt and purchases. Hmm, I wonder how far down that flush went?

Snapping back to the present, I replied, “You could go behind the counter and help out, you know.”
