Chapter 15

Adam sank onto the bench and fought the urge to cry. He needed to think. Last night, they’d offered him the chance to make a phone call, hadn’t they? He was pretty sure he hadn’t taken them up on it, as drunk and angry and confused as he’d been. So didn’t they owe him one? Not that he wanted to face Josh just yet. But who else could he call? No ID, no money, no credit cards. No choice. He was gathering his strength to yell for the officer when the cell block door opened again.

“Your turn, Langston. You’re outta here.”

Adam’s first reaction was to protest that he still didn’t have ID or money, but he snapped his mouth shut. Idiot. Was he really going to argue about getting out of jail? He preceded the guard out of the cell block, bewildered but hopeful.
