Chapter 21

Cyrus was released from hospital, or checked himself out more likely, and rented a float plane. He contacted me through the flight service station, with an invitation to bring Brett, and my parents, along to visit Grand Pond. We all met at a dock jutting out into the lake, where a plane similar to the one he lost was moored.

I helped Mom and Dad in, knowing he was going to be cramped, with his considerable height being squeezed into a sardine can. He didn’t complain though, but then again, I couldn’t remember a time when my dad ever complained about anything. Once we were all buckled in, and Cyrus went through his pre-flight checks, he called in and we proceeded to take off. It was amazing how effortlessly the aircraft glided over the water and eased into the sky.
