“So how are things going with Eric?” she asked.
“Okay, I guess. No complaints.”
“That’s great. I knew you two would hit it off.” She hesitated before telling me, “Gary’s still a little uncomfortable with you and Eric seeing each other, but I think he’s coming around.”
“What is he so worried about?”
“I don’t know. Sometimes, I swear, he worries more about Eric than he does about his own children.”
“Why? Eric’s a grown man.”
“I don’t know,” she said with a shrug. “Gary and I have been married for nearly thirteen years, and I still don’t understand the dynamics between him and his brothers.”
I wanted to talk more with Sabrina about Gary and Eric, but I couldn’t because we were suddenly interrupted by the arrival of all three Keener brothers. Greg told Gary and Sabrina that there was a house for sale in the neighborhood, and he suggested they take a look at it.
“I don’t know if we would want to move this far out,” Sabrina told him.
