“What’s the deal with you and Mark?”

Not willing to show my hand if I didn’t need to, I treaded lightly. “There is no deal. I told you, he’s my dentist and a friend.”

“Is that all?”

“Should there be more?”

“I don’t know, Patrick. You tell me.”

“There’s nothing to tell.”

Eric snorted. “Right.”

“What is your problem?”

He sighed and crushed the empty beer can with his hands before asking, “How long have you and Mark known each other?”

“More than five years.”

“Did you know him before you met Clay?”

I let out an exasperated sigh, wondering where Eric was going with his line of questioning. “Yes.”

“He and Clay look a lot alike.”

I bristled at the comparison. Yes, both Mark and Clay were handsome, dark-haired men, but the similarities stopped there.

“So?”

“So it’s possible you and Mark had a thing in the past before you met Clay.”

“We didn’t. Even if we did, what difference would it make now?”
