“Oh.”
“But only because men are jerks.”
I chuckled. “All of them?”
He shrugged. We were a lot alike. “Maybe it’s unfair of me to say that. Stereotypes…our culture has them, and you thought I was going to behave like one.”
I didn’t answer, but he was right.
“All I want is for you to be with someone who makes you happy, and to be a part of your life with him when you do. Share what you wish. Keep private what seems right.”
“Aww. Really?”
“Of course.” He stood. “Maybe Paco. He’s a good guy.”
I smiled.
“Your mother feels the same way. Now get a job or come work here. I’m tired of feeding you.”
