“It was never something that came up in our time together, I suppose.”

“You didn’t answer my question.”

“It’s not work-related.”

He grunted in frustration. “Why are you being so difficult?”

I shot back, “Why the sudden interest? You never cared before.”

Van seemed sheepish. “I…I want to get to know you better.”

I was suspicious. “What for?”

“I want us to be friends.”

“To what end?”

He growled at me. “Does there have to be an ulterior motive?”

“With you? Hell, yeah, and if you’re bored and looking to get into my pants again, forget it.” I finished my sandwich and used the hand sanitizer on my desk to clean my hands for the moment until I could go to the bathroom and wash them with soap.
