Chapter 4

“Enjoy,” he said as he held the bag out for the man to take.

The man took the bag. Their hands touched. Lingered. His hand on Tony’s.

“Miles,” he said.

Tony furrowed his brow. “Sorry?”

“Miles,” the man said again. “My name is Miles.”

Tony nodded. “Oh. Okay. I’m Tony.”

The man raised the bag in a kind of wave. “It’s been a pleasure, Tony. You have a good night.”

Tony watched Miles stroll out of the shop—without a single glance back.

He exhaled. He felt as if he’d been holding his breath the entire time Miles was in the shop

Naturally, he didn’t tell Maxine about his encounter with Miles. Even so, he couldn’t get the man out of his head. It wasn’t just his handsome face and his well-dressed, athletic body. Miles was confident, and there was an air of mystery about him, like he was an incognito millionaire or an up-and-coming film star. Something extra that no one else had. And there was no escaping the feeling Miles had found him attractive, too.
