Chapter 8

With Monday being his only free afternoon, he used it to catch up on his homework and assignments, yawning his way through four hours of it. It would have gone a lot more smoothly, and a hell of a lot faster, if he could have stopped thinking about Miles for five minutes.

To his dismay, he didn’t hear from Miles on Tuesday or Wednesday either. Every time someone entered the shop, he expected it to be Miles. And every time he was disappointed. By Thursday he could hardly concentrate during his lectures and was too distracted to sell much at Lovers Bookshop on Thursday evening.

“Looks like someone’s in love,” said Maxine.

Tony was immediately defensive. “Why? What makes you say that?”

Maxine laughed. “Nothing.” She put her sales book in her bag and walked out the back door. “Sell lots,” she said as the door closed behind her.
