“Come in.”
I opened the door and leaned against the jam.
“Is it time for me to take over at the door?” Wei asked. As he got no response, Wei looked up and saw me in his doorway.
I smiled as his eyes widened in, dare I say it, pleasure at seeing me there.
“Hi,” he said.
“Are you on bouncer duty tonight?”
“Yeah, around midnight. Gives Ben a break. Plus, his favorite band is playing, so I wanted him to have some fun.”
“Who knew you’d be such a teddy bear?”
“Don’t say that too loudly. It would ruin my cred.” He set aside the papers he was working on and looked me over. I could feel the burn from where I stood.
His obvious appreciation was a balm to my soul. Everything I wore—the tight, black vinyl pants that laced up the sides, the mesh tank top that stopped just above my navel and showed off my silver belly button piercing—clung to my body and left nothing to the imagination.
“What are you doing here, John?”
