Well, he wouldn’t bother. Giving the doctor a curt nod, he thought, If it gets me access to Jonathan, let them think whatever the hell they want. I need to see him, that’s all. I need to know he’s okay.

And if he pulls through this, who knows what we might become? I should’ve invited him in. Then neither of us would even be here. We’d be back at my place, talking in front of the TV or hell, maybe cuddling a bit on the couch. Who knows where the night could’ve led? I should’ve asked him to come in.

The doctor introduced himself, interrupting Peter’s thoughts. “I’m Dr. Knarr,” he said. Both the Kand the Nwere pronounced, kah-narr

Thank God I didn’t give it a go myself,Peter thought. He frowned harder, as if that might help him concentrate on what was said next.
