“Well, that’s a good question, boy.” Jasper got up from the table. “I say we carry on as usual. I think we’re far enough away from everything to remain relatively untouched by any repercussions. However, I think it wise if neither of you leave the property for the next week or so. Naturally, Polly, I no longer have any say on what you may or may not do, and Jacob, you still have the freedom to spend your Sunday’s how you will, but I urge you to take my advice and remain here. At least until more information comes to hand.”

“When do you think that’ll be?” asked Jacob.

“I intend to ride into Parramatta in a fortnight, after all the trouble and confusion has settled down.” He paused before continuing. “At present, I don’t think anyone knows what the devil is happening.”

He walked from the room leaving Jacob and Polly staring straight ahead into space.
