“I know what you were talking about. I think we’re both the recipients of God’s filial love in our distinct situations.”

“I suppose we are. As much as I used to be jealous of you and the extra time you got to spend with Father John while I was doing chores, we really were in the same boat.”

“And what about us? How would you characterize our love?” Raphael asked.

“‘Our love?’ What do you mean by ‘our love,’ sir?”

“What do I mean by ‘our love?’ The love I showed you physically in this bed.”

Leander grinned. “Oh, you know I love you, kind sir. That’s why I keep you around.”

“No, that’s why I let you hang around like a mangy alley cat is more like it.”

“The truth is, Ray, you kept me going and gave me a reason to excel.”

“No, it was you who kept me sane and helped me adjust to life with Father John,” Raphael said. “I mean, what would I have done without you, bawled myself dry that first night?”

After a moment, Leander asked, “Are you still upset with them?”
