“We can use this principle of love to expand our acceptance of all people and all conditions. I ask you to go from here and reconsider any laws meant to segregate or call out any human condition for the worse. I ask you to support and create laws bringing all human circumstances together as one to fight the evils of this world in which we live. Imagine if we took all this energy hating and harming each other and used it to combat our common enemies: hunger, poverty, and education.”

Leander took a deep breath before he finished addressing the judge. “If you must know, I don’t ever remember feeling any different. When I entered my first teenaged relationship, it was with another boy my own age. It felt natural to me. For eleven years, I shared my life with a single man, discreetly, without anyone knowing. That’s truly the life for which I long.
