Finding Forever

She was watching him. “What about him?”


“Nothing. I just met him today and wondered about him.”


Heloise poured coffee in the cup and shook her head. “Don’t know much about him, but if he’s a daddy’s boy, stay away. Mayor Young is a bigoted asshole.”


Somehow Leo wasn’t surprised and he reminded himself he shouldn’t care about Nolan anyway. 2


Nolan Young sat in his car and stared at the outside of the house where he’d grown up. He wanted to drive away, keep driving until he was far away. Maybe never stop driving. Could he be far enough from here?


He clenched his eyes shut. If only he could wish this away. He could hope his old man wasn’t even at home. But he never got that lucky.


He wished he could afford to move away and never look back. But where would he get enough money for his own place? Rent was expensive and he couldn’t afford it on a minimum wage job with no college degree.
