Kingston snorted. “They want to sell the property for the present owners. If they can do it without letting us know there may be problems, they will. They’ll consider that it’s up to us to do our due diligence.”

“Humans,” Tino muttered.

Armand patted his arm. “Don’t forget, we were once humans ourselves.”

“True. Still, given the crop of them around these days…Well, I wouldn’t turn any of them. We’d end up with a bunch of creatures with only one thing in mind. To be the top of the heap, no matter who got hurt in the process.”

“Aren’t you the cynical one,” Armand replied. “On the other hand, that’s one of the reasons most of us in the last hundred years or more have refrained from increasing our numbers. Choose the wrong person and our existence would be revealed in a heartbeat because they’d want to use their powers to rule the humans.”

“True,” Kingston agreed. “Not that they’d be successful. Humans don’t take lightly to being dictated to.”
