“Not counting us, five others, spread around the city, which is, if I remember correctly, one hundred and fifty square miles, give or take,” Kingston replied.

“A hell of a lot of acreage for eight vampires to cover. If you divided the city equally,” Tino said after a moment’s thought, “each territory should be approximately twenty square miles.”

“True,” Armand agreed. “But some of us have smaller territories, because of the human density, so our jobs will be marginally easier. Mine is about four and a half square miles.”

“And not all parts of city belong to a specific vampire,” Kingston added. “With so few of us, we can pick and choose which area we wish. The rest is free-range for anyone who wants to use it.”

“So where I live and hunt is technically open to anyone?” Tino asked. “I guess it must be, since no one’s challenged my being there.”
