Chapter 8

“Okay, but just this once,” Luke said.

“Deal,” Jourdain replied, squeezing Luke’s shoulder.

When the clerk had everything bagged up, Luke managed to fit them into his backpack. Which says something about how many clothes I own. He smiled ruefully as he and Jourdain left the store.

“Do you want something to eat?” Jourdain asked.

“No thanks. You’ve spent enough money on me already.” Luke quickly added, “Which I’ll pay you back as soon as possible.”

“I know.” Jourdain gave him a fast hug. “Are you planning on going back to…” He paused momentarily. “To wherever you spend the night?”

Luke chortled. “If you mean, am I going to do some more panhandling while there’s still people around. No. I want to be at the warehouse first thing in the morning, so I’m going to crash.”

“How are you getting there?”
