Chapter 8

Then I get lost in the story, staring at this strange and sunny guy with his hand on his almost-full glass.

I’ve never observed Sean so closely, and the previous times I’d been careful not to look at him for too long. Now, in this pub, thanks to the semi-darkness, I feel more secure, more protected.

His face is smooth, quite sharp-featured, but his lips are thick—it’s a mystery how Charlie was able to notice them from so far away—and his smile is so open, it seems to contain the entire world. His eyes are green, with unnaturally long and curved eyelashes, and sometimes they catch a blond curl which he blinks out of the way.

“What do you think?”

Oh my God.

I wasn’t paying attention to Sean’s words, who’s now turned toward me and waiting for a reply.

“Wha…what do you mean?” I ask, hoping to be saved by the bell. Useless hope.
