“How can you say that?” he said.
“Because I love you. I want you to be happy. That’s all I’ve ever wanted.” She jerked her chin at John. “You think I’d put up with such a diva for anyone else?”
“Now, Mandy—”
“It’s okay,” John said, letting his smile loose. “She’s right. I can be a diva.”
Frank sagged back in the couch, shaking his head in disbelief. “I thought I was so careful.”
“You were, Dad. But who else ever saw you the way I did?”
He could’ve kissed her for that response. After all the torment Frank put himself through, he deserved the love she was currently showering on him.
And now John was in the way. This was the best possible outcome, but father and daughter clearly needed time together.
“I should probably go,” he said, rising. “Let you two talk some more.”
