“I can’t believe I hadn’t heard,” she whispered. “This is terrible.”
Kiko nodded.
“I didn’t know him or his family at all. I thought you might.”
“Did they catch who did it?” asked Karen. She looked deeply concerned.
“No,” said Kiko, “But the public shouldn’t be at risk. That’s all I heard, though.”
“Oh, God,” said Karen. She stared at the chocolate eggs for a moment. “I think one of my friends knows his mother. I ought to…to see if there’s anything I can do.”
“I’m sure that would be appreciated.”
“Could I get a few of those eggs? Maybe a gift…”
