Chapter 7

“I take it these are for me, you being on a diet and all?” He picked up a chip and threw it in his mouth.

“Eat them all, you die.” Luke laughed. “I haven’t had chips in ages.”

Between them they polished off the food in between swigs of beer. Luke found that he couldn’t eat very many of the chips, but Max had no such problem. Luke cleared the plates and brought more beer. They settled happily in the shade side by side.

“I love eating outside,” Luke said. “Makes me feel like I’m on holiday.”

“Mm. You going away this year?”

“Dunno. You?”

“Nah.”

Luke sat up with a thought. “We could go camping if it stays like this. I’ve got all the kit; we could go up to the Lake District.”

“Camping?” Max grinned.

“Yeah, it would be amazing we could walk, drink beer…shag ourselves stupid.” The words were out of his stupid mouth before he could think. Of course he immediately remembered the no strings rule and felt like an idiot. He cringed and screwed his eyes shut. “Sorry, no strings, right?”
