Chapter 27

“I have something to tell you.” She took a sip of her iced tea and lowered her head in what I perceived as shame.

“Spill it, Faye. What’s going on in your life?”

“Jason Green…” Her voice lingered and came to a stop. “My life at the moment is all about Jason.”

I helped her, pushing. “What about Jason?”

“We’re sleeping together. There it is. My confession. My stress reliever and passion and…My God, Paul, he’s so much better in bed than Harold. You of all people can understand that.”

My mouth dropped open, and I just about fell out of my seat. “He’s almost half your age, Faye. I thought you were against sleeping with younger men.”

“Booze will change one’s mind,” she snickered. “And laughter and seduction. The kid knows what he’s doing. I can’t tell you how much fun I have around him. He’s nothing like Harold, who doesn’t seem to care about me in the slightest. At least that’s how he makes me feel.”

Then I thought about the obvious and asked, “Are you and Harold still a couple?”
