I understood that we would be friends for a very long time, no matter what man just happened to be attached to her by marriage, boyfriendhood, or whatnot.

Clay Johnsen. He had mysteriously entered my head for a moment or two while I walked away from Faye and Jason. Where was he in the world? And, who exactly was he sleeping with? Since our last encounter in my bed, we hadn’t spoken to each other. Not that I had wanted to. A division had been created between us, and I had every intention of keeping it. Clay and I needed to stay as far apart as possible since we were attracted to each other and always would be. No matter what conditions occurred in our updated lives, we would be friends, just as I had promised to be to him, and vice versa, I was sure. Now. Tomorrow. Always.
