Chapter 39

I had too many years in the Corps to feel comfortable with thatscenario. So I forced myself to push him away—somehow I managed to get my hands between his chest and mine and I scooted over on the slim mattress as he lay down beside me. “Rion, we can’t. Go on, get back to bed.”

He laughed at that. “I amin bed.”

The small light was behind him, casting dark shadows across his face, but I could see the sparkle in his eyes and his teeth when he smiled.

I sighed and tried to sit up. “Rion—”

“You’re not going anywhere.” He held me down and rolled onto me again, kissing me quiet. “Just let me stay here a little bit, okay? No one will say anything. No one else will know.”
