Chapter 48

It was an evening such as this when Matt climbed aboard Vic’s bus, wearing the very same sunglasses Vic now wore himself. Matt rode in the back seat that time, waiting until all the fares had exited before approaching Vic about perhaps getting together once his shift was over. And now, look just how far they’d come…

The interstate faded away as Vic took an exit south of the river, heading for the bus terminal. The road turned dark, a flat stretch lit only by the moon above, but it was a familiar path for Vic, who drove it twice a day. As he approached the gate to the city garage, he shifted into a lower gear and opened the small window beside his seat. Flashing his ID at the guard on duty, Vic eased the lumbering bus into the gravel-strewn lot.
